Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Wristwatches
The Patek Philippe Ellipse or Golden Ellipse is a collection of unconventional wristwatches that was released by the Geneva based renowned watchmakers in 1968. The inspiration behind the design of Golden Ellipse was the set of proportions found in nature called ‘Golden Ratio’. Patek Philippe accomplished the overambitious task of bringing about a natural appearance by discarding most of the commonly found high end features in other Patek Philippe watches. The naturally flowing appeal of the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse collection has been achieved by minimization of the involvement of technology. This line of wristwatches is still rated extremely highly for its matchless combination of class and simplicity.
The initial version of Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse was available in yellow gold with lapis colored dials. The company later introduced charcoal, chocolate, and blue colored dials and 18k rose and white gold case. One of the most sought-after models of the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse is has no dial, being a manual wind, fully skeletonized version that shows the movement in its entirety from both sides. Perfectly matching alligator straps are available in brown and blue. The beautifully crafted automatic movement uses Patek Philippe 240 caliber that beats at 21,600 bph. This self winding model has a power reserve of approximately 48 hours and consists of 27 jewels. There is also a 22k gold mini rotor.
In 2008, 40 years after the introduction of the initial version, Patek Philippe celebrated the 40th birthday of Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse collection with the launch of a platinum version. The company also introduced an exclusive set of two watches with matching jewelry. In this anniversary collection, two formats of the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse, named “large” and “larger”, were introduced with platinum and 18k gold cases, respectively. These anniversary collection watches had applied hour markers, white gold baton hands, and the signature of the eminent manufacturer. The large version of the anniversary collection also has a small diamond placed beautifully between the 6 o’clock lugs. Only 100 limited edition sets were released by the company, and each had something special for both men and women. This set contains two 18k white gold cufflinks with centers of blue for men. For women, each of these anniversary edition boxes has 29 blue sapphires, 69 high quality diamonds, and a graceful necklace made of 18k white gold.
The name of Patek Philippe is truly synonymous with class and tradition as far as watch making is concerned. Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse has been a top choice for collectors and watch enthusiasts for more than four decades and would certainly continue to captivate us with its beauty for many more years to come.
