IWC in the past has made limited edition timepieces to benefit the Antonie de Saint-Exupery Youth Foundation. Antoine de Saint-Exupery was a French aristocrat, writer, poet and aviator. In honor of the 70th Anniversary of Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince) authored by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, IWC created two limited edition watches.
The limited edition IWC Mark XVII pilot’s watch, 41mm with a midnight blue dial has Arabic numbers and the counterweight for the second hand is shaped like a star – the home of the little prince. This watch is limited to 1,000 pieces with a cost of $5,400.
The second watch is a Big Pilot perpetual calendar timepiece. The limited edition IWC Big Pilot is being produced in rose gold with a midnight blue dial with in-house IWC caliber 51623. The watch has a seven day power reserve with a perpetual calendar (good through 2299) and moon phase. The dual-moon system found on the Big Pilot’s perpetual calendar has a disc featuring Le Petit Prince stargazing in the sky while flying on a small planet, similar to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s drawings. The Big Pilot is limited to 270 pieces with a cost of $51,200. Both pieces will be released in early November 2013.
