A. Lange & Sohne is the trademark of reputed German watch manufacturers Lange Uhren GmBH. The wrist and pocket watches from the company are considered to be amongst the finest in the world along with Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe. A. Lange, also known as Lange, was founded by Ferdinand Adolph Lange during the year 1845 in a small ton named Glashutte, located near Dresden. Led by Ferdinand and his two sons, Lange started its illustrious journey by manufacturing top of the line pocket watches. The Lange family continued manufacturing state of the art pocket watches through generations. During the Second World War, they manufactured specially deigned oversized watches for the Germen airmen.
A. Lange & Sohne was abolished completely after the Second World War as the properties of the company were seized by the Soviet administration. More than 40 years later, in the year 1990, the great grandson of Ferdinand Lange, Walter Lunge restored the company after the fall the government of East Germany. Walter Lange was ably supported by Swiss watchmakers like Jaegar Le Coultre and IWC. The first ever wrist watch range was launched by the company in 1994. Like before, the re founded A. Lange & Sohne also operates from Glashutte.
All watches from the company have mechanical movements instead of quartz movements. However, the company has released some special edition wristwatches with quartz movement, too. Unlike most modern day watch manufacturing companies, the Lange company develops, produces, and assembles their movements on their own. The decoration and movement design in Lange watches completely abandons Swiss features like Geneva Wave decoration, or multiple cocks and bridges. The design features of this German brand of luxury watches include three quarter plates, screwed chatons made of gold, and balance cocks that are hand engraved. In sharp contrast to the brass made Swiss movements, Lange movements are manufactured from German Silver. This is why the movements of watches from A. Lange & Sohne have an unusual sheen and color. The cases of these watches are made of platinum or gold.
Lange watches are known for their distinctive appearance. The watches from the company are considered to be more ascetic in appearance compared to that of the other watch manufacturers. The watch enthusiasts love this brand because of its complications like tourbillions, world timer, perpetual calendar, split second etc. The greatest news for the watch lovers is that A. Lange & Sohne is about to introduce many new watches within 2012.
